Friday@Murmuration, located in the @4240 building on the Cortex campus, kicks off the weekend with an interactive journey through our city’s underground maker movement. The party features DIY art activations with hands-on experiences from Squarefruit Labs and SpecDrum. A gallery-style fashion presentation featuring local designers Ameli Blaser, Marcel Coleman, Nasheli Juliana, Trang Nguyen and Jena Miller will thrill local fashion-enthusiasts with avant-garde designs straight from Saint Louis. Live concerts from members of the St. Louis Symphony, DJ set featuring original work from 18&Counting, and performance artist Basil Kincaid will offer aural and visual journeys throughout the night. Take-home opportunities will be available via a pop-up art market, curated by Westminster Press, where attendees can purchase original artwork and wares from local makers.
For the tech-savvy, the party offers a photobooth from local app maker Pikazo that features custom filters made specifically for the event. Finally, local furniture makers Narrative and David Stine Woodworking will round out the experience with some of their signature pieces topped by exciting floral arrangements from Flowers To The People.
Friday@Murmuration runs from 6-10pm and is free and open to everyone. No ticket is required.

You’ll learn how to blend divergent, innovative ideas with more logical, analytical thoughts to tackle the thorniest obstacles and problems faced in your personal and professional life.

Observe a House of Genius session, where professionally anonymous panelists from the community meet to collaborate and discuss problems faced by presenting entrepreneurs. Genius@Murmuration is a very different way to network, where panelists are introduced by the quality of their ideas rather than their professional qualifications. This is not a “pitch,” and the entrepreneurs are not asking us to help them find funding…they are asking us to help explore a critical problem that will help them succeed.

Murmuration celebrates the convergence of art and nature with the works of Bill Smith. His pieces function as studies in the design of nature. The Spherodendron sculpture was inspired by the forces of nature that drive the formation of complex networks—the biological, the behavioral, the physical. The Spherodendron is inspired by every complex structure in the world, from the filament networks of cells to the macrowebs that make up the Internet.
